About Ammo

I've now had three different sources, two in law enforcement, the other in military that have all said that they have been told to expect ammo costs to rise significantly and if they need to 'stock up' do so sooner rather than later.

The supposition is that all ammo from some point in the future will all have to be 'registered'. After this is law, you will have a certain amount of time TO register what ammo you have left on hand. If you choose not to register it and are found with it, there will be long jail terms.

Again, this if from three different sources, in three different areas and none of them know each other.

NO, I WILL NOT tell you who told me. So don't bother asking that question.

The only thing I can tell you is what I just told you, with each of their permission to tell you that one thing.

When I hear it from one of these folks, then I consider it a rumor. When it's backed up by the two other sources, then it passes from rumor to possibility, however slight.

If anyone can verify this from a different source, it would be greatly helpful.

So, can anyone help?

It's been public knowledge for a while (at least in CT). From The Hartford Courant:

Jun 24, 2007

Police Ammo In Short Supply

The police need bullets. An ammunition shortage is forcing police departments across the state to cancel training sessions, borrow from other departments, and even settle for less-powerful rounds. 'We called a couple of neighboring departments to purchase ammo from them, but they said they didn't have enough,' said Rocky Hill Police Chief Michael Custer. Custer recently canceled a training session when he learned that an order of .223-caliber ammunition for M-16 rifles used by some of his officers was on back order for six months.

Also, just received an e-mail from SportsmansGuide re: a 7.62x39 order. Product won't be available until Jan 26, 2009.

.308 is now gone, as of thursday, at wholesale level. Hope you got brass, bullets and powder. You can get some new softpoint for about 500.00 a 1000 rounds. Not milsurp.

Why does everyone think Oblahma would need to wait to get Congressional approval for a firearms ban/confiscation. Thanks to past Congresses and our outgoing chief executive, all Oblahma needs is a domestic "incident" and he can declare martial law and order American citizens to turn in their arms. It's really quite simple.

federal excise tax on ammo, already on the books at 4%. that could change to 2 bucks a round with the stroke of a pen, and a democrat vote.. of course military and LE sales are tax exempt, so civilian sales would become ... cost prohibitive.

Yes, but Obummer's past behavior doesn't reveal any tendencies to be this radical, and I see no good reason for him to start now. There's no doubt he wants your guns, but he plans to get them through a thousand cuts, not a single chop of the guillotine. Obummer is patient and disciplined. Basically, you will wake up one day and realize you've been essentially disarmed -- and you'll be scratching your head trying to figure out how it happened.

OK, thanks folks.

Several here have given me yet other tiny pieces to the puzzle.

It's all about being able to read between the lines. It's as much what is not said as is what IS said.

G, don't like this info? That's kewl. But FYI, realize that none of my sources give this kind of info out to 'civilians'. Each one of these folks either are or have been clients of mine whom I've helped in the past or continue to do work for. And I'm not in this for the money.

For me, it's all about me helping them. And if they choose (occasionally) to share info with me and tell me some things that can be shared along with other info that cannot be shared, I honor that. And then I pass along the info I'm allowed to share.

Please note in my OP that I say specificially I'm looking for confirmation. I'm NOT looking for you to believe me. Hey, don't.

That just means the day AFTER this type of thing happens, you might remember this conversation. It could be two months, two years, or two decades, but happen it will. Believe it or don't. No skin off my nose.
